Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2026. This is a community friendship site. It is free. We never take payment.
Disclaimer: Kom Braai By My is a community site to help South Africans in the US connect and make friends. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government, refugee resettlement agency or immigration service, and it gives no legal, refugee or immigration advice. For official help, contact your resettlement agency or USCIS directly.
What we collect
When you sign up we store: email, first name, city and state, languages, optional bio and interests, and an optional “newcomer / just landed” flag. We also store events you host, RSVPs, community posts, reports you send, and people you block. We do not collect immigration or visa status, exact home addresses, or payment details.
Emails we send
We send transactional email to the address you give us: a verification link when you sign up, a password-reset link if you ask for one, a short welcome note after you confirm your email, and a notice if your password is changed. AgentMail processes those messages for us. We do not send marketing mail.
Why
We use this information so you can find other South Africans nearby, host or join a braai, and keep the community safe. We do not sell data. We do not run ads against your profile.
Who can see it
Logged-out visitors may see event titles, cities, and first names of hosts — not emails, venues, or the newcomer flag. Signed-in members can see venue details for events and first name plus city for other members. Only you see your email on your profile. Member lists are not public.
Retention and your rights
We keep your account until you delete it. Under POPIA (South Africa) and GDPR-style principles you can access, correct, or delete your information. Use Your profile to edit details, download a JSON copy of your data, or delete your account. Deleting your account removes you, your events, RSVPs, posts, reports you made, and blocks. Contact via the site owner if you need help — we do not publish a separate email address here.
This is not legal advice. If you need official help, contact your resettlement agency or USCIS directly.
